Reminder to residents with another major snow event predicted for Friday January 12 into Saturday, January 13, 2024:

The Town needs resident’s cooperation as we prepare for another major snow event going into this weekend.

Residents can pick up some sand/salt mix in the bin at the cul-de-sac of Finch Brothers Road off of Hwy S. If the sand in the bin is running low and in need of refilling please contact us so we can be sure it is filled for our fellow residents. Containers and a shovel are not supplied so be sure to bring your own.

Garbage bins: Garbage and Recycling bins need to be removed from the roadways/ROW prior to snow events once pick up has occurred to assist with safety and snow removal efforts. Any items rejected for pick up are required to be removed from the road way within 24 hours of the normal pickup time. During snow events we ask that this occurs as soon as possible.

Items placed out for a scheduled bulk pick up should be placed at the road way by 6 am the day of the scheduled pick up. Please do not place the items out for bulk pick up any sooner than necessary to keep roadways clear of debris for snow removal efforts.

Parking:  ALL ROADS fall under the Winter Parking Regulations noted below; while many of the Town roads have no parking at all times as listed in the Town Ord. 6-5. Full ordinance can be viewed here.

Town Ord. 6-5-4: WINTER PARKING REGULATIONS: Night parking prohibited: No Person shall park a vehicle on any Town roads in the Town of Lake Mills between 1:00am and 6:00 am during the months of November, December, January, February, and March of any year.

During daytime snow events (outside of the prohibited hours), when plowing is actively occurring and where parking is allowed, we encourage people to help with the snow removal efforts by removing parked vehicles from roadways temporarily until the space is cleared.

Also remember when completing your own snow removal, Wis. Stat. § 346.94(5) prohibits anyone from placing or causing to be placed upon a highway any foreign substance which is or may be injurious to any vehicle. This prohibits anyone from plowing, shoveling, or blowing snow onto a road. Additionally, Wis. Stat. § 86.022 makes it a misdemeanor to place any obstruction in a road ditch which will impede drainage. As such, individuals should not be filling ditches with compacted snow.

We appreciate your help!
