Rock Lake Improvement Association (RLIA)

Public Invited to Share Views on Rock Lake
The Rock Lake Improvement Association (RLIA) is holding a public comments session to gather community input on the update to the Rock Lake Management Plan.  This public comments meeting is open to all and will be held on the first floor of the Lake Mills City Hall, 200 Waters Street on Thursday, February 9th from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
The current Rock Lake Management Plan was finalized in 2006 and contains recommendations to improve and protect Rock Lake and its watershed. Many of these recommendations have been fully or partially implemented.  However, there are new conditions that were not in existence ten years ago that should be considered now.  Therefore, a new plan for the future management of Rock Lake is being developed.
The RLIA and the Jefferson County Land and Water Conservation Department received a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to update the Rock Lake Management Plan.  The updated plan for Rock Lake and its watershed will be determined with a public process that includes reviewing current data with resource specialists, a volunteer committee to advise the RLIA, and input from the public. The goal is to complete the updated plan by December 2017, and public comments are invaluable in shaping this plan content and priorities.
For the past five months, an advisory committee of community members has been meeting to review this data and help craft recommendations for the RLIA.  This advisory committee was selected to represent a wide variety of lake and watershed stakeholders from fishing, to boating, shoreland restoration, agriculture and more.  Advisory committee members will also attend this public comments session.
All members of the public who have an interest in Rock Lake and its watershed are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts.
